Roof Installation Chatham NJ

Roof Installation Chatham NJ

This month we had the opportunity to finish the installation of a shingle roof in Chatham. The homeowner was a previous customer had many roof repairs done over the years but decided that replacement was the way to go when our sales manager showed his just how much he could save on a new install. The roof damage was extensive with a visible sag in the center and multiple layers of shingles flaking and disjointed along the roof line. We began by filing for the necessary permits with the township in order to work on the home. The first step in the process required removing all the layers of shingle down to the plywood and then removing the rotted plywood. The entire house would be exposed to the elements so this would necessitate quick workmanship and a clear forecast for the day. We began by bringing a full sized trailer and a container to the jobsite as the amount of debris was much greater than a typical roof install. The entire perimeter of the home had blue tarp draped over the ground so as to catch all the small debris. Furthermore we equipped our personnel with three magnetic nail catches to quickly sweep the area. Once the removal was complete we began the installation by moving two pallets with roofing material closer to the home. Our ladders equipped with platform hoists were able to move the material on the roof in no time. The first plywood was installed and in less than an hour all holes were plugged. No more sag! Then came the process of installing the underlayment over the roof and ice-water barrier on the outer areas. Once the process was complete the actual shingle could be installed. We always use an extra nail on every shingle so as to secure it better in place. The first shingles to go on the side are known as the starter shingles and the ones used at the very top are the hip and ridge shingles. A good roof needs proper ventilation so a gap is cut into the roof at the peak over which the exhaust vents are installed. At the roofs base the intake vents are installed in order to allow airflow inside. We installed insulation along the rafter beams which also direct some of the airflow upwards. The system we used is the total protection roofing system by Owens Corning designed to last for many years and includes an industry leading manufacturer’s warranty.
